These earrings are made of squares of fine silver which has been punched and then slightly domed. A silver ear post is soldered on the back. The back of the earring and the post are painted with black lacquer and the earring is then etched in ferric nitrate (the lacquer protects the pin from being etched away). After cleaning off the lacquer, the front/edges of the earring are burnished to a high polish.
I have made several pairs of earrings - the result depends on the punch used, the degree of overlap of the marks and the strength of the etch solution. They work very well and the recipients have been pleased!
