We melted down some scrap silver and rolled the ingot into flat sheet. However, during the melting process we must have incorporated air into the molten metal because heating pieces cut from this sheet led to their expansion, like a pillow.
So two small squares (1mm thick) were cut and bound with brass wire like package. On heating the silver expanded by 100% in the areas where it was not constrained by the brass wire.
Silver earring posts were then soldered to the back of the pieces.
