Software

During my PhD study I have written software to meet specific needs.

Transcriber

Transcriber is a freeware Windows application which allows the user to transcribe from a WAV file using using the PC keyboard to control playback whilst writing text into an RTF file.

I wrote this because I find it difficult to operate a traditional foot operated transcribing machine. This application avoids the use of expensive equipment and is ideally suited for the growing use of MD and MP3 recorders to carry out interviews.

Currently this application is still being tested and developed and I hope to find time to change it to support other digital formats in the future.

If you are interested in trying a beta version of the software then you can download transcriber 1.0.8 which is a zip file containing all the files you need to run transcriber, a sample WAV file as well as a readme.txt. Unzip all the files into a directory and then read the readme.txt before using.

Use this software at your own risk.

SittingTimer

This program is designed to remind the user when to take a break from the computer. It measures time spent sitting at the computer rather than time spent typing. Currently the program can be configured in the following ways:

SittingTimer v1.1 can be downloaded as SittingTimer1.1.zip. Once the zip file has been expanded, SittingTimer can be installed by double-clicking on setup.exe and following the installation instructions.

This software is freely available for people to use at their own risk.
